We engage in the mitigation of human-induced hazards through building community capacities and resilience. Butaleja district is a low-lying area and is prone to floods. We work with community groups to promote tree planting, practising alternative farming crops rather than wetland-based farming, advocating for increased resource allocation to affected communities and general sensitisation of communities.

RESILIENCE: The main focus is on community-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) interventions to enhance local capacity to protect livelihood assets and increase the use of indigenous knowledge for early warning communication systems for preparedness and response—expanded business opportunities to cope with post-disaster stress.

FOOD SECURITY AND LIVELIHOOD: The main focus is on increasing year-round climate-smart production of high-value crops like vegetables and horticultural crops to enhance income for rural and urban poor women. Emphasis shall be placed on value chain and market analysis of both agro-based and other alternative livelihood opportunities.

NUTRITION AND COMMUNITY HEALTH SYSTEMS: The main focus is on strengthening community health systems for surveillance, prevention, and integrated case management of common preventable diseases, including non-communicable diseases. Special focus is on maternal and child nutrition to address chronic malnutrition (i.e., stunting) and nutrition education in schools.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION: The main focus is to create awareness of Climate Change Adaptations and promote sustainable land use and environmental management, including wetland protection.

CAPACITY BUILDING: The main focus is entrepreneurship skills for youths out of school, financial literacy for women and youth saving groups, and girls’ empowerment. Also, capacity building for local charity organizations like CBOs/FBOs and district local governments on proposal development, strategic planning, project management, and accountability, among others.

RESEARCH AND INNOVATION: The main focus is evidence gathering through assessments, surveys, and studies, and using technology applications to address common challenges in humanitarian and development programming and implementation.

In bidi-bidi and Kampala, we are implementing interventions aimed at reaching out to the last customer with energy-saving technologies (Making and marketing char briquettes and energy-saving stoves), the process uses a mobile application in identifying and following up on the customers and trucking sales, Additionally, in Bidibidi we are also in the process of installing a solar mini-grid targeting 400 households and business entities. Both project interventions focus on economic empowerment, access to low-cost energy, and environmental conservation. In the Kyangwali refugee settlement, our focus is on promoting Climate Change mitigation measures in the Kagoma zone around Bugoma Central Forest Reserve through capacity building of women groups in making and marketing briquettes as a lusting option to reducing tree cutting and dependency on firewood for fuel

We have done work on creating awareness for the prevention of cancer and other non-communicable diseases in Kisenyi, Kampala among Somali refugees and host communities, Empowering patients and their health carers to demand policies that promote access to quality and equitable healthcare, in Wakiso, Kiboga, Mukono, Kayunga, and Luweero, we mobilized partners to extend medical services to cattle keeper migrants in Kiboga district, we are formulating partnerships and collaboration deeds with organisations located in disaster prone areas and refugee settlements to sensitive communities on issues of patient safety and safe use of medicines.

We are implementing a project aimed at improving the resilience and agricultural production capacities of vulnerable communities to increase food security. Particular target areas include;

UNNGOF’s primary constituency and owners are NGOs in their diversity and configurations, but is however open to other interest groups within a broadly defined civil society. Membership spans international, national, faith-based, networks and district organisations.
